Spring has sprung and with it comes beauty and snakes

Spring has sprung and with it comes beauty and snakes

I love this time of year. The weather is warming up in central Missouri and the flowers and trees are starting to bloom. Heavy coats are finding there way to the back of the closet and lighter jackets are working there way to the front. As I write this, turkey season is just around the corner and my hunting pals are all talking about the gobblers making noise in the woods. My paddler friends are moving through the waterways on kayaks and canoes and taking in the sights and sounds of bald eagles on their nests along the river systems. Hikers and bikers are hitting the trails and our local MKT and Katy trails are seeing increased traffic which is par for the course - this time of year. Foragers are out searching for morels and walking through wooded areas that grow this fine delicacy. Outside of Missouri the warmer Spring weather has already hit the southeast and southwest states with flowers and cacti in full bloom. This time of year reminds me of a review we received a few years back and I would be remiss if I did not share it with you. You can find this review on our website in our snake gaiter listing.

They Work as Advertised

"A friend lent these to me for a trip I took through Death Valley. Unfortunately as I was jogging up the trail, a rattler was just behind a rock where I couldn’t see it. It lunged as I came up on it, bit into the gaiter and it’s fangs got stuck. As it was squirming, I pulled out my knife that I always have holstered on my thigh pack. I grabbed it by the tail and cut off it’s head. Crazy experience. So glad I had these!"

I can't help but think what would have happened to Mike if he wasn't wearing his friend's Pike Trail snake gaiters. Being that far out in the desert, snake bitten by a rattle snake could have been a death sentence for him. These are the stories that get me and my team up in the morning. We love the outdoors and love this time of year but also know the dangers that come with it. We want our friends, family and our customers to experience nature and all the amazing gifts that it has to offer but we also want you to be safe and comfortable while you are doing it. We love the shared stories and anticipation that this time of year has and wish you all a safe and adventure filled Spring! Wander More. Worry Less. -Josh
